Hi all, long time lurker but my first post, the other day I stupidly backed into my friend drive way gates leaving a bit of a hole in the rear bumper just to the bottom left above the exhaust. The car apart from that bump and scratch above appears fine drives/starts fine. Any idea if this can be repaired reasonably? Can a good body shop do the work at all? I confess my car knowledge is not good and I’ve never had an accident before so never used a body shop or anything like that. Image below has a picture of the damage.

really appreciate any help or thoughts on cost before I go to get quotes. 4BB706A6-E2AB-4CC0-B452-E2DB211ACCBB.jpeg

You may find a local smart repairer who will deal with that on your drive. Google smart repairs or paint less dent removal and send them pics.

Hi graham, thanks for the help I will give that a try. My partner spoke to one person who seemingly does some form of body repairs and he seemed to think a new bumper was needed..

Thanks for your advice

Looking at that I say it can be filled and reprayed for about 200 from a decent body shop.
It may need a need bumper if some serious structural damage which is not evident from the pics and depending if you happy to have a little ding that cant be repaired ie on the chromework, but those parts are replaceable.

Shop around to get a fair overview.

As long as there's no structural damage then it's perfectly feasible to repair the bumper. Having had a repair performed by a local body shop on my wife's Micra I had a go myself on the second occasion when the damage was similar to what you have above. I think that first time around we paid about £260 for removing lamp post damage, but that also included a repair to the boot hatch.
The bumpers are made from an ABS plastic and judicious use of heat can help you "iron" out creases or reshape areas. Glue and flexible ABS filler is readily available (I had to apply a patch and then fill level).

Did the same thing myself yesterday and still reviewing options. If you search plastic bumper repair on YouTube, there are a few demos of how to do it.
One guy shows repairing worse damage than yours. Also, while looking on Amazon, I see there are gadgets that will melt a sort of staple into the plastic to brace a split and are only £20

Its repairable OK, but for the best job, the bumper will need to come off. When finished, if its done correctly, you should not be able to see that it was ever damaged.
