I bought a Merc C class estate 220d last September and I’ve done around 8k miles since I bought it. I recently had a service at a really good merc specialist and they mentioned the rear discs would need changing on the next pad change. The car has just been today back to Merc after the radio completely stopped working and it’s been covered under the 12 month warranty. They carried out a health check on my car and mentioned the rear discs are down to 20.5mm and recommended to be changed at 19.5mm. So the car had around 78k when I bought it and now has 86k on it. So within 8k I’m needing new discs, also the brake pads are down to 50% the car just turned 5 years old in December. Is this something you believe Merc should have changed prior to me purchasing the car, I paid 19k so obviously feel this should have been checked and replaced when I bought the car, what’s the lifespan of discs from experience, around 50k miles?

They'll exaggerate to get your pants down .

Tyres and brakes are their bread and butter .

Frankly no. It's not something I'd expect unless they were down to legal limits.
Discs and pads are a consumable item like tyres and I'd expect the same if it were tyres.
If you'd noticed on purchase you might have been able to request it but I doubt you'd get it done for free.

Mercedes must make a fortune on discs & pads under the guise of 'safety' ..... I'd ignore the dealer & take the word of the indie.
If the rear discs are 20.5mm thick & the lower limit is 19.5mm it means there's still a millimetre of disc left before replacement.

I bought my car from a Mercedes dealer & then less than a thousand miles later took it to AN other Merc dealer for a small warranty job. Needless to say that the 2nd dealer advised new discs & pads after their gazillion point health check .... 3 years/20-odd thousand miles later the original discs are still on the car having just had a pad change along the way.

I think MB say that on used purchase they change things that may not last 3000 miles ? Or at least that was the case years ago when I bought mine .

Do you really think they report / advise accurately ?

It's widespread amongst any main stealer make of car.

I don't trust anyone other than those who have earned it (Star, MBS, AMF, Avantgarde and RSD).

Somethings to keep in mind

The total wear spec is 2mm (for disks) so they are only 50% worn.

Also

MB main dealer will do the bare minimum for the approved used. Eg unless the brakes are worn out or tripping the wear sensors, they won't replace them in advance.

Years ago MB told me my front discs needed replacing at 40k miles . Years later I changed them at 100k as a treat for the car .

I get at least 100 000 out of a set of rear discs. I must try harder

They normally need to be changed because they've gone rusty and pitted far before they've been worn out

Thanks for the replies. They came back to me and said that 8k of mileage is acceptable use that they won’t replace them.
