Hello,

My rear quarter panels on my 2.3-16 have rusted through at the wheel arch (my 'Cossie' wheel arch is now hanging off and looking sorry for itself!). Does anybody know where I can buy replacement three quarter panels? I'm not sure how far the rust has spread so I think it better to replace the whole section rather than just get an arch replacement.... is this the right thing to do??

Thanking you in advance!

James

Eurocarparts might stock a replacement panel just beware the quality and thickness of the steel is pretty poor, though they're cheap and it'll look alot better than what you describe!

Mike.

edit I just looked at www.eurocarparts.com and they have alot of genuine panels

Mike.

Thanks Mike....

Euro car parts were my first point of call, but after I emailed them to find out which parts I would need exactly, they emailed back saying they didn't stock them anymore!!

I wonder if maybe the chappy who replied to me just couldn't be bothered to look!?!

I think I'll get back to them, by telephone this time though!

Thanks for taking the time to help.

I believe that Veng is supposed to be one of the better quality after market suppliers. I did a search once on the internet and found their exploded parts diagram but I didn't note the web site address. There is also Buck Car Panels which I think are in High Wycombe. They will send you a copy of there exploded parts diagram.

Go to any paint factors, motor factors or panels suppliers. I did a search for you yeasterday but only the wheel arch repair panel seems to be available.

Don't discount going to a breakers yard. They will probably burn one of a car for you for about £30 if you can find a decent one. Then clean up the edges with a grinder.

Would you not be better off buying a new car because if the arches are duff, it has probabily spread to other parts of the car I have a 13 year old 190 with no rust and you don't see many rotten at the arches.

Get a new car?? NO WAY!!! Unfortunately the reason why the 190e 2.3-16v's rust at the arches is simply because of the plastic mouldings which act as a water trap. Needless to say these aren't on standard 190's so that's why they don't suffer from the same problems. I've had the car thoroughly looked at and it's only the arches that are rusted.... so I'm not unduly worried!
