HI

Ive recently aquired a 92 sl 300-24, It failed its MOT because the rear fog lights didnt work. Ive found that fuse No 2 was missing from the fuse box which has been replaced and the lights still dont work. There is a feed from the No2 fuse but nothing at the back on the rear cluster for the fogs, the wire is black and red. Is it possible there is a replay for the fog lights, or is there more info you guys could offer as to what to look for and where. Muchly appriciated ..

Presumably (and apologies for starting with the bleedin' obvious) you've checked that both bulbs aren't blown? Is there a live feed to the sockets? Is there a good earth from the sockets?

Other than those things and the fuse, I'd be as stumped as you! Sorry!

I would have thought there would be a relay for that. Do you have the Haynes Manual?

Ben

Yep both bulbs ar fine, Ive removed the block connector from the rear cluster and used a test bulb and wire straight into the connector. there is no live getting as far as the block connection, so like you Im stumped.

Giles no manual either.

Hmm. I hate electrical problems, for exactly this reason! Give me something mechanical that I can hit with a hammer and I'm fine, but not electrics.

Which cluster did you check? Its possible that only the offside is actually supposed to work, but both sides are wired up. That's certainly the case in my 1991 W126, as I discovered recently after a lot of head-scratching.

The main feed comes down the passenger side of the car and feeds the otehr cluster, but both dont work. I think the next thing to do is remove the interior to trace the wiring, How does the light switch come out also..

Malcolm - I think I've confused you. It's not my E-Class with the problem: it's jibby's 92 sl 300-24.

I know that on mine there's only one rear fog light, but I don't know if that applies to jibby's too.
