Rear light cluster problems

Near side rear cluster, the backup light not working, message on dash. Took out checked bulb clean contacts, no joy. Took out the unit, cleaned contacts, applied dielectric grease, and pins on the connectors. Now, left indicator, broke light, and the top bulb blinks. Checked fuses, not finding anything to point to the problem. Thought it might be the SAM but haven't tried yet. Possibly relays, yet to check. Ideas?

Did you try replacing the bulb.

Yes with no success

If more than one light blinks when you activate the indicator, or apply the brake then there's likely a bad earth connection.

was there not an updated wiring loom for the ML to counter this very issue on the brake light - i am sure there was. Google

Took it to my merc man and he determined by the star unit that it was corrosion on the metal that was causing the fault. Thankfully it was not the SAM unit. Thanks to all. Dale

FYI managed to get the corrosion off by using Autosol and Maas metal cleaner.
