Rear NS tyre wear 1998 SL320

I have noiticed that I am wearing out the inner edge on the nearside rear tyre on my 98 SL320. The offside tyre is fine. I have done approx 10,000 miles on these tyres. I have been advised to get the camber checked. Has any one else suffered from this problem and if so what was the cause and the fix. Any advice would be appreciated.

The only adjustable angle on the rear of a 129, is the toe. the caster and camber are none adjustable.

The only way the caster or camber can be out on the rear is if something is bent or broken!!.

A mb steering geomotery will show if the camber is out of tolerance and the damaged part should then be identified.

Could be that the bushes have gone perhaps on the thrust arm?

As Ellsy says get the geometry checked - pricey but cheaper than tyres.

The rear top camber strut does wear on these cars and would cause your tyre to wear. these also do not rattle or thump when worn,the only way to check is to jack the car up,support it on stands and get someone to grab the tyre at a ten to four position and check for play, new arms are around £100 and only available from MB, tho you can buy the centre support links from euro car parts £30 each and change the bushes to your old links. The bushes are a few mm largr so the old links need reamed, or filed depending how good you are with a file..
