rear off side squeaking

Hi Every one,
W202, 220 cdi 2000 estate,.160K.
This is on going problem since I had this car last year. Some WD40 spray did not resolve the problem.

So please tell me where might be the problem and how to solve it.

In the summer months it even sounds very unpleasant and unbearable.

Any help and suggestions will be appreciated.

Can you reproduce this noise by bouncing the suspension when stationary?

Thanks--- Yes, you can here the noise when bouncing and pushing the suspension at stationary.

I have a horrible squeak from my rear offside also. I notice it mostly when I get out of the car and the suspension moves. I was mostly aware of the squeak when I jack up the rear of the car. It also is very noticeable when I bounce the suspension. I have not heard the squeaking when driving.

I bought a can of silicon lubricant spray, sprayed every joint on the back suspension (both sides), but it made no difference.

What I noticed was that it went away when I release the parking brake.

Question for the OP, does your car squeak when it is driving along, if not it might be something to do with the brake.

Next problem is finding out why it squeaks when the parking brake is engaged.

In my limited experience this is sometimes caused by a dy and sometimes rusty contact between the top of the spring and the spring cup at the top. The dry metal rubs as the spring turns slightly as it compresses. The best lubricant for this happens to be waxoil which you can apply from a spray can through a straw or thin pipe that it comes with. Cover the brakes and squirt some around the top of the spring. Best done with the car jacked up as this allows the oil to get behind the offending contact point. It also stops the metal rusting further and hopefully solves the problem. Matt
