Hi all,

I have recently purchased a second hand replacemant rear bumper for the B180 2005, which has parking sensors built in (my car did not have these originally)

My question is this: I have got the bumper and all parking sensor with connector etc.. I also purchased the module for it... I was told by the company who sold it to me it should "plug and play".. on closer inspection this weekend I noticed I have no wiring in the rear of the car to plug into?

I do understand when these cars are specs when purchased it is an "added extra" but I would of thought all the wiring looms are pretty standard and these "extra's" are just bolted on afterwards?

Has anyone else changed the bumper in this way or should I just remove the parking sensors and install new ones with 3rd party ones?

Thanks

Anthony

I believe that Merc make looms specifically for individual cars ie not generic looms that might have connector for other add-ons

You won't be able to retrofit just the rear sensors and display - the whole system needs to be fitted, if you want it OEM.
As above - there won't be a wiring loom for it, and it's pretty extensive - links SAM, IC, etc, etc.

Your best bet is, as you said: fit an aftermarket system (might even be able to use OEM sensors - have to try / play with it).

I have to say that parking sensors are something I could quite easily live without .... I did (as we all did) for many years. But I do admit to using them while they are fitted to my ML even though they shout loudly when there is still quite a way to go.

You need a wiring loom that connects to the gearbox and and the non existent LED panel in the reaf of the car and the non existent PDC switch in the control panel.
Also your loom will be half a loom as you no front PCD.

Long story short, bolt on your "replacement" bumper and life without sensors.

Benz are not interested in you being able to upgrade functions on yr car.
You can upgrade with a whole car !, and benz CAN upgrade YR cars software.

I agree - I much prefer a reversing camera, and could live without annoying beeping.

Thank you all for the quick reply to my original message.

While on the subject of sensors / reverse camera's. Can anyone suggest a head unit/reverse camera which will fit into the W245?

Thanks

Well ...

This was my old A200 C169 - practically the same interior as W245.
I fitted that head unit in August 2017, sold the car a month ago - not a single problem.
Just search for W169 W245 android head unit, and select the type you like - either large screen as above, or OEM-looking one with buttons, etc. Spec should be Octa-Core processor; 4GB RAM; 64GB NAND (or ROM as they call it erroneously), high-res screen.

Reversing cam:

Was going to replace it with higher resolution one, but never got around doing it, so still have a brand new cam, if you want it.

As you can't PM yet, you can email me david.glk @ mail.com
