Hi,
Anyone help me out on this, I have just purchased my 1st Merc, a late 94 C180 Elegnace auto. All seems to be ok except the rear screen heater. When the car has'nt been used for a few hours and you push the rear screen heater button, it lights up, but goes off when you release it, however, after about half an hour of driving, if you push the button again, it stays on and works as normal. Any ideas??

Also any recomendations of good Merc specialist garages in Coventry or Stafford area for servicing?

Thanks

Steve :p

If you have a voltmeter, check the battery voltage after the car has been sat overnight and then after the car has been running for a while. Some circuits won't work if the battery has a low voltage.

The battery should be at least 12.5 volts when the engine is off, this should rise to no more than 14.5 volts with the engine running.

Hi Steve,

No idea about the heated rear screen switch, but a good specialist is Edmonds in Pedmore, Stourbridge. They offer an excellent personal service, however, they do not have any courtesy vehicles (well you do pay for this at most places anyway).

My first Merc is similar to yours, but I have had a few teething problems, and they continue 18 months on to this day!!!

Good luck with it,

Glenn

Seems to be sorted now. Changed the battery even though the old one started the car fine after a couple of weeks of no use.

Found though it took a week before the rear screen heater would work striaght from starting the car in the morning, aaume this is because the batttery needed a good charge, but I drive it 110 miles every day, so wouldent of expected it take so long ! !

There you go, its now working fine, Now i've only got a leaking boot, dashboard lights and passengers wing mirror to sought out !!

The joys of owning a older car :x
