rear suspension 1996 S420 squeeks

rear suspension 1996 S420 about 40,000mi ago and again now i have a squeek like neoprene rubber in the right rear shock area. the shocks are not leaking and respond properly. the noise is terrible. it went away before after 1 month. i don't want to wait another month. the dealers solution is to replace the shocks.

David9753 oddly enough the suspension of my w124 E200 has begun squeaking too, so tomorrow I intend to investigate. Here in Ireland we've had an exceptional period of dry weather and I think that this dryness is highlighting the condition of my rear suspension bushes,links etc which have 133k miles clocked. I'll post the results of my findings but I doubt if the shocks are to blame.

I carried out a visual examination of my rear suspension but their was nothing out of the ordinary to be seen. I suspected the joints where lower suspension link is attached to the wheel hub carrier as I had to replace these on an earlier model I had. I put some oil in these areas as a test and sure enough the squeaking noise is gone!
