Hello all,
Just had a service and the dealer spotted that the rear wiper on my '98 W202 estate is inoperative (this failure had occured recently but I hadn't attempted a repair yet). The dealer offered to swap the motor for a very princely sum.
However, I'm not convinced that its the motor at fault. It was working fine since buying the car, then started operating intermitently with the wiper swishing about three minutes after the switch was turned on instead of immediately. Now it fails to work at all.
The washer works fine and the light on the switch comes on when used so not sure if the switch is at fault. The fuse hasn't broken. All of the wiring on the motor and relay are in place although I couldn't see where the earth lead connects to the bodywork, if indeed it does.
Question is: Is there any way of checking the relay without paying £40ish for a replacement? Or does my description suggest something else at fault?
