Rear Wiper on ML 270 CDi

Hi Everybody,

I have a ML 270 CDi, Year 2000, Auto. My rear wiper works, however when I try and activate some water I get the noise but no water. Can anybody help, is this a major job as I imagine the pipe runs from the front water bottle to the rear, perhaps it is twisted or broke. Any info much appreciated.

Not so easy to remove the rear door panel to access it without doing damage.

Hi Tracy,

Just to add to the good advise, mine stopped working a while back. The ML has 2 pumps, one for the front, the other for the rear, mounted on the water tank. The rear pump had broken at the point where it enters into the water tank, meaning that a) the water tank always self-drained down to that level, b) the pump sounded (like yours) but no water at the back.

Mine was a simple fix, just replace the pump!

ML 270 CDi - Rear Wiper

Hi everybody,

Managed to find both ends of the water pipe from the water bottle at one end to the pipe connected on rear door panel to rear wiper. when i pressed the switch on the dash the pump seemed ok as water flew out. so somewhere along the pipe is a blockage, any suggestions, can i have the pipe blown with air to clear any blockage ?

new to this site takes me ages to find new posts so forgive the delay in replying.

hi television,

still having probs with rear wiper, got your drawing but where on car is this, my mechanic said it is a long drawn out job, so thought i'd try and trace pipe, have found both ends just need to know how pipe goes through car,do i need to take panels etc off, what a nightmare just to get water on my rear window !!!
All help appreciated.

Yes it is the pipe that comes off the jet, the jet does prise out,but you have to find the pipe,this can only be joined to the jet when its off and pushed back complete.

I thought that you were never comming back here,so pleased that you posted back.

I'll always come back just takes a while, busy few weeks, ok i need you to explain how i follow the pipe, imagine writing it idiot proof then hopefully will get it, you have to be patient i am a real novice, how do you reply so quick to the posts ??
waiting online for your expert advice.
PS Getting my windows darkened on Monday, Merc Spec so will be even cooler !!!

If you can see the pipe when the jet is out, then use tweezres to get it through the hole, if not the rear panel must come off is in the earlier replies.

Hi Malcolm,

I'm still confussed, I have disconnected the pipe from the water bottle and also the pipe on the rear window screen, where do I put the tweezers ?
There is no water coming to the rear, do I need to take off the complete rear panel. HELP THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY
