Hi everyone,

I have just checked my car into a local indie and have received he following quote -

New brake light switch £51.75
Air Mass Sensor £304.75
A Service £172.50
Brake Fluid Change £138
Fuel Pipe £23.00
Steering Rack £373.75
Wiper Blades £23.00

Total £1,086.75

All prices include supply and fitting.

Please can someone let me know if the prices quoted sound alright.
I had to leave somethings they recommended off as the total bill was £1,868.75 in total. Other things needed were -

Hand brake mechanism, recirculation pump and two new side mirrors as motors are not working.

Seems to be a regular annual bill on this car of around £1,300.

Thanks,

Agree some of the work can be done yourself, but somethings link brake fluid and others not a good idea if your not handy with spanners.

These prices are way over-priced. As everyone else has already posted, have a look ar DIY section and you should be good to do half of that yourself. For more tedious jobs; such as steering rack and A service, try to get another quote from an Indie. For all that is worth give Olie a call @ prestige a call. He is very well priced and been recommended by loads of people. I am due to go to him too. It is around 60miles or so but i am sure you will save a lot more on prices and job will be done well.

At 120 miles you would still be in pocket

They are called Merc Centre and are based in East London just off Leybridge Road.

I would be grateful if someone could recommend another company as they have been looking after my car for the last couple of years and i always get big bills, but thought what the hell as they are cheaper than the dealers.

I am not handy with the DIY stuff so always need a garage.

Thanks,

compared to them, even a dealer is cheap!!
I paid £35 for a brake fluid change at the main dealer.
Also, why are those things (Steering rack, MAF etc) being done?. Do you have a problem with them or is it a requirement based on their 'diagnosis'?
