Recession...what recession?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went to Bicester Village Shopping outlet yesterday and although they have opened a new multistory carpark with a capacity for what must be a few thousand cars ( Actually asked Bicester Village for the number but nobody knows!!!) all the places were full !

Many luxury cars, including Bentley Conti with a rather " high maintenance" (& rather attractive) driver but this one is rather special

I think its a Zagato DB7 anyone know?

PS Looking at the pics makes me wonder if the Volvo driver in the background needs some photo evidence?

Those parking spaces are nice and wide,,if I tried to park in the average slot I could not open the doors on mine,,and the same for you Carnut, and I cant risk the damage.

Consider finding a space adjacent to a pillar or lampost in the car park and park with your driver's door on that side. The post will prevent the adjacent car from being too close and each of you will have better access.

Or. Find a car parked nose in and reverse park very close to him/her. Means you have generous space to get out your driver's door, although neither passenger could enter or leave (if you do this, get really close - you have no idea how silly some people can be!).

I also look for slots on the end of the car park adjacent to a flower bed and put the driver's door on that side, or spaces adjacent to the wall in a multistorey. These enable you to put your passenger side on the line and give you max space for the driver's door.

The longer driver's door of 2 door saloons or cars like the SL have always suffered this problem. I have yet to master parking on ferries - the crew always put you too close together in any event, and for an SL much too close together. Have found myself using the passenger door for access before now.

How do others deal with this?

Yes I always take the end places in parking lots so that my door opens into the bushes etc, this gives plenty of room for others

Using Stena line going to Sweden, all of the ferries had stacks of room both sides to open all doors fully, so that was a relief.

Reading your post Alex,,your antics are the same as mine, almost word for word:D

Well that's a relief Malcolm - two of us can't be wrong!

Although this may mean that I will have to sail to France via Sweden in future - any excuse for a few more miles!!

I used to do that, until I decided that digging her up again every time just wasn't worth it. :???:

OK,going with the recession thing, just tried to book a weekend break -from 5 - 8 Dec -Copthorne Birmingham and Merry Hill no availability. Hyatt and Plough and Harrow can't do it.Friday and/or Saturday completely full! Done this before in some of the above hotels, but booked a bit earlier-and it wasn't that busy.So we thought this year would be pretty OK.How wrong we were!

Back to the careful carpark thing ( I know, not on thread but at least I started it!)

Parked at Tesco next to an immaculate MX5; the owner was aghast!! "I parked here hoping no-one else would".....I know..I parked here knowing you would take care!!.....

If only there was "Car Careful" places! as well as mother & baby, etc:p

I know what you guy's mean with the parking spaces...

At the office I always try and get a spot in the round-about, as they are so wide... only down side is how much muck comes over in high winds at the side of the building :(
