I have trawled through the forum but cannot find a solution to this niggle. The recirculating LED indicator on my 280E 1993 124 series will not extinguish - it keeps flashing when it is supposed to be off. The vent appears to close OK and the LED stays on however when the vent is open (yes, it is open as you can feel the air through the vent under the windsreen) it flashes. I have had the gas checked OK (about 200psi I believe) and the aircon appears to work, hot, cold etc! Any ideas as the local dealers don't?
Thanks,
Ian

Recirculating LED 280E

Hi Ian

If its a MB system. I would of thought there must be a fault in the system. Your local dealership should be able to check the codes and come to a suitable conclusion???? If not what have they done up to know? Also is it climate control or normal AC?

Regards

Andy

Recirculating LED 280E

Thanks Andy. I have not been to the dealers yet - still saving up! I have had a variety of telephone diagnosies though - ranging from "low voltage" from MB in Germany via the website, "low gas" but checked to be c 200psi, "blocked pollen filter" did not think there is one on a 280E?
Having only just acquired the car, not sure whether its climate control or ac, nor whether factory or retro fitted. Is it easy to tell? The controls do relate to the handbook entries. The compressor is a Seiko model if that makes a difference!

Recirculating LED 280E

Update - it is an aircon system, not climate control! Also believe factory fitted rather than retro.

Solved!

The niggling light is extinguished!!
How? The retro-fitted Diavia system has a remote temperature sensor mounted in the engine compartment (on my car). It is connected to the main unit by two wires through a male/female in-line two-pin connector. The fault lies here. Having waited two months for a replacement part, the sender unit, then fitted it, the led still flashed!
Whilst connecting the old unit back on, I noticed the led had gone out. Eureka! With the aid of a bent paperclip and some contact cleaner, the two pin connector has been cleaned and the situation solved!
I therefore post this solution in order to save other frustrated owners the same problems.
