Hi,

Having tried and failed to find a new exhaust for my E230 (1996) estate can anyone recommend a supplier?

I've tried several MB dealers and the prices they quoted were beyond belief - over £600 just for the back box and about £1200 for the full system!!

On-line I can only find one at Europarts (a reasonable £260) and they are out of stock.

Cheers
Mark.

I would think Eurocarparts or the High Street chains (Kwik-Fit, etc) would be your best bet

Rear box for a W124 estate from 1996 is about £80 from a dealer. I wonder what makes £520-worth of difference? Were they quoting prices including fitting?

Cheers Nick.

It was a high street firm - Central Tyres in Warwick who failed to find one apart from an MB dealer (without fitting!!). The problem with the E230 T210 estate is it was a short lived model which was replaced after a few months of production by the 6 cylinder E240.

I found plenty of exhausts for the saloon - Central Tyres would fit me one for about £150!! - but the estate seems much more difficult.

I'd nip down to your local Mercedes dealer and have a look at their parts system. You may be able to get a cheaper exhaust off another model

You can look up parts here. If your VIN starts 210 037 then this is correct:
http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb1.asp?TP=1&F=210037&VIN=

- though I don't see an estate car option

On the W124 the rear box rusts through just where the tail pipe exits the box. It can be welded and will last a couple more years if you're lucky. Depending on whether it's the pipe that's bad, or the box, you might be able to have your local independent assemble something from bits. The Mercedes systems are (were?) made from good heavy-guage steel and will take welding

If the rear box is £600 I'd be looking at alternatives for sure!

I just got a new back box for my 124 280 est for 100 quid all in from gsf. Fitted it myself. It is a german exhaust from their 'best quality' range.

Just had a new system put on my 98' C250td (for sale!)
Bought back section from Euro parts approx £90 (German sounds like Ebenizer?)
Front section, cat etc from Kwikfit cost £300 - BUT told kwik fit that I was going to fit back section myself & discovered front had gone so they fitted back section free at the same time!!!!!! I suppose it was easier than fitting to an old back box!!!
Got a regas for £44 too!!
Cheers

Did you give the dealer your car VIN number - essential.

According to my records, the part number is 210 490 04 21 and includeds the rear AND middle box (as one unit)

Today's cost at Inchcape Mercedes (Kidlington in Oxfordshire) using their online ordering sustem is just £322.09p including VAT and delivery to you.

CHECK IT OUT URGENTLY on 0845 125 8999 (order enquiry line) and quote your full VIN.

Lets us all know how you get on.

Is that a false second tailpipe on the first two - if so, would look a bit obvious on a cold morning ! But look great
