Recommended Engine Oil

[AMG4ME]

Mobile One is the recommended engine oil for the AMG CLK55 at £50 for 5 Litres, do any of you use or recommend an alternative.
This is a much discussed subject within the Tvr Owners Club where 0/4W is considered by many as to thin, this shows in oil consumption and finding holes that the thicker viscosity oils don't breach.
Any suggestions ?

I guess if this is the recommended oil to use by AMG and Mercedes, then I suppose one should use it or it may be a good excuse for the dealership not to pay out on any warranty claims!

Mobil 1 at £50? I'll sell it to you at £45.

Seriously, that seems vastly overpriced. Last time I bought any(about 2 yrs ago)it was about £34 in Halfrauds and if you shop around on the internet you can get it mail order for about £30 inc p+p. (I did buy 8 cartons to get this price!)

Mobil 1 only comes in 4ltr containers not 5ltr

Mobil 1 is recommended for Merc AMG's as they designed the engine with that oil in mind. TVR's may well want a larger friction oil like Subaru's do. they recommend 5W40. they build there engines to suit that level of oil viscosity. something about wear rates and high tempratures and so on.

Mobil do this oil as well, just not available to general public. Garage's can get hold of it for you.

Yep - I bought 8L of it (0W40) at Costco Manchester a couple of wks ago. Don't think it's a special offer, and they had tons (well lots of litres) of it.

the Bosch +3, formerly known as W8DCs, for my SL for £11.09 yesterday. Any better bargains to be had anywhere, let us know.
