I have a used A140 under HP which I took possession of early this year. The car is less than 3 years old.
I recently took the car to MB for them to see why the ABS and BAS/ESP indicators light up during a journey (two occasions on the motorway).
The chap at MB called me and reported that the reason the indicators light up was due to a shock absorber on the drivers? side being slightly "bent".
He then explained that the bent shock absorber was outside the scope of the 3 year manufacturers warranty and I would have to pay something like £550 to fix the problem.
Anyway not wanting to pay £550 for a fault that I found difficult to believe, I decided not to take any action and walked away. I then took the car to two independents and asked them to assess the shock absorber. Guess what? They both said the shock absorbers on the car were fine!
As I have this car on HP for another year I am not that bothered as I will want to upgrade. However my problem is whether MB have on record the fact that I took the car in for a reported fault and the diagnosis that they gave was not actioned. Clearly they gave the wrong diagnosis and this could be to my disadvantage.
Can anyone shed any light? And also has anyone experienced the ABS and BAS/ESP light problem? What is it? The manual suggest a number of possible causes (none of which were picked up by MB).
