So we can conclude the brakes are different on my car and hence the standard SL55 pads won't fit.

l think that means the only pads l can replace them with are genuine MB pads which may, or may not, cure the squealing noise?

If the pads are fitted correctly then they should not squeal

How bad is the squeal

l agree they shouldn't squeal. However, you would have thought that two different MB Dealers and one very good Indie could sort it.

The squealing is bad - high pitched, emabarrassing and extremely irritating.

Doesn't do it when the pads are cold - i.e. for the first 10 minutes driving.

Only does it at low speed - when crawling in traffic or coming to a standstill when stopping.

There are different schools of thoughts on this.

MB say that the piston faces only should be greased, others including me do the backs and the slides to stop pad movement that causes the resonance. the disc should be lightly sanded all over to dispel the score lines the make the disc resonate

You can easily experiment with the grease. Apply to the back of pads and pistons, pad sides and pins. You can always tear down clean off and re apply to the spec to see if there is any difference.

I do not think that red stuff pads are going to solve the noise problem.

I would fit softer pads, as my view is would be less likely to squeal
Problem here is that only the one type listed:confused:

This is exactly why l am trying to find a picture/drawing of the pad shape because it's possible EBC may match it to one of their GreenStuff pads from another vehicle.

Bit of a long shot but worth a try.
