How do I stand with rejecting my car, and what is the process?
I took delivery of my GLE53 on 23rd July.
It wouldn’t start intermittently in September some time, so only had it a few weeks. It was in the dealer’s for a week until they found the fault in a wiring loom connector.
Then it had a cooling fan issue which it went in for on October 1st. It is still there now waiting for a part.
It has has also had a couple of smaller issues.
I am fed up with waiting as I am paying for a car that I haven’t got. I don’t Really want to reject it as it is a lovely car.
But I have lost complete faith in it and wouldn’t trust it on a long journey and getting marooned somewhere. As we were going to go abroad in it.

So from legal point you have 30 days.

6 months only of you show the fault was there from day 1.

There is the odd problem car & you seem to have had one. What has MB done in recompense, have they loaned you another car of equal quality?
Vehicle parts are in very short supply due to Covid, what will you buy if you reject it?

indeed Mioba...

full refund if within 30 days, for anything after 30 days and within 60 days :

If there’s a significant fault(s) within the first six months of you owning the car, you must give the dealer one chance to fix it. If this is unsuccessful, you may reject the car. Within the first six months of owning a car, in the eyes of the law, (https://www.askthecarexpert.com/consumer-rights-car/) the fault can have been present when you took delivery of the car.

Despite this, when the dealer refunds you, it won’t be for the full price. The dealer will be able to subtract the cost of wear and tear for the mileage you’ve covered. You will probably have to negotiate over this as the dealer will want to pay you as little as possible; you will want to recoup as much as you can.

(ref: https://www.askthecarexpert.com/reject-a-car-after-10-months/)

Good luck!

cheers for the replies. I have got a GLC 220d hire car through Mobilo. Not a match on the GLE53 but it gets me around.
It’s just frustrating when you spend £80,000 on a car and it’s full of faults and spending nearly as much time at the dealership as I’ve owned it.
You would of thought there must be 1 sensor somewhere in the world.
And you can’t tell me Mercedes aren’t building any models with that engine.
Anyway I’ve decided I’m going to go to the dealers tomorrow and speak to a manager and tell them my dissatisfaction.

First port of call is to write to the Dealer Principal formally stating all the problems you have and you wish to reject the vehicle.

Second thing to do is to call Mercedes-Benz customer services and log it with them. They will liase directly with the dealer to resolve the issue.

The only issue I can see here is, you are within your rights to reject the car but if you ask for a replacement, you will be waiting around 6 months probably, so would need to ensure the dealer is going to sort you a loan car, which may prove awkward. Or you may be required to keep your existing vehicle, which is in the workshop because there are no parts. Rinse and repeat.

That’s my worry if I did reject it. And would a new car actually come with everything mine has. I.e all the bits MB are leaving off due to shortages. Luckily mine came with everything.
I will make contact with the dealer again, and as was said be firm but polite. I don’t think you get anywhere if you start shouting.

I've rejected two brand new Jaguar F-types. They had to go and re-order each time with a 3 month wait each time. I got Jaguar HQ involved since I expressed my displeasure at having a nasty little XE loaner. HQ pulled a brand new F-type of the production line for me to use as a loaner until I got a satisfactory specced new car. When re-ordering each time they allowed me to up the spec with more/greater options as compensation.

Love a good customer satisfaction story, but is a disgraceful ordeal that you have had to go through and probably taken and a lot of your time and effort for them to come good in the end. It is really unacceptable from a brand that likes to market itself so highly...

That’s all well and good, but if there is a worldwide semi conductor shortage, and existing orders cannot be built, where do you think MB can pull a car from if there is no stock and no orders being built? That is why I stated that it would probably be a 6 month wait. Audi,VW, Seat are all quoting a year for delivery apparently and the brand I work for are slowing production to keep units flowing to fulfil orders and lines moving.
There also seems to be a problem with supplies of glass for panoramic sunroofs, as our orders for the part of the range with the pan roof have had build dates removed indefinitely. Nissan have actually stopped taking orders for cars with pan roof and no doubt others will follow

The price of glass had gone through the roof (sorry!!) I need a piece of glass cutting for a coffee table 6mm thick, 689mm diameter toughened, was quoted £110!!!!!! Needless to say I didn't go ahead with it, they have a massive shortage.

I’ve told this tale before so apologies to those who have seen it before & I’ll give the abridged version.

Mid 90s I purchased a BMW 325 with all bells and whistles.
9 months later and 6 weeks in the workshop (always with an equivalent or better loan car), they offered a replacement which I refused.
They then offered me a new 525 for a nominal sum to cover “wear and tear” on the 3 series.
I took the 5 series and it too had problems (some poorly repaired transit damage (sneaky buggers) and problems with the seat leather - yes they were real leather).
They replaced that with another 5 series (to my spec) which, as luck would have it, was the facelift model.

Fantastic service from BMW but, I doubt that manudacturers give that kind of service these days. I couldn’t get MB to sort something as cheap as alloys on a 85k car.

Jeeeeez that story again. No just kidding.

Service is the operative word. Gone down hill massively.
In mid early 90 places like BMW and Merc had a very small customer base and model range - customer service was imperitave otherwise loss of custom in a small pool was big.
Now its totally the opposite in all respects.
