Hi all, just after some advice
I’ve had my E400d coupe for a year and now the warranty is expired, I’m seriously considering a stage 1 remap as I’ve heard these engines can take it long term.
Most companies are reporting gains of 335 to 380 bhp, 700 to 820nm torque and a rough 10% gain on mpg.
I’m wondering if anyone has done this to their e400d and what the outcome was. And if anyone has any general advice about the safety/ long term implications of remapping a big diesel. Is it safe to assume the car can handle this map? I don’t plan to change my driving style, will do a semi fast 110 mile cruise on the motorway once a week, sometimes I may go on a spirited drive around country roads. Super chips have a august deal on right now but I’m in no real rush.

Grateful for your thoughts…

Those gains sound about right, it will be a beast with that torque. Forget about gains in MPG, that's cobblers. But you will get more Smiles Per Gallon.

Don't forget to tell insurance, it will probably £££ increase
I checked it out, they quoted £13 more per month which I didn’t think was too bad

Apparently the 400d is a monster when re-mapped.

My 350CDi was mapped by GAD 7 years ago and been perfect ever since, no issues at all

Hearing this I feel positive getting it done, GAD has been mentioned a few times, but far for me coming from southwest but sounds worth the trip.

All I will say is it’s best to travel for the right workmanship when it comes to tuning.

I have seen cars tuned badly that end in tears and cars tuned well that run for years. My two older non Merc cars tuned over 14 years ago still run sweeter than the Cadburys factory! Seen many of the same cars with engine issues when others tried to save £5 or were happy for a generic tuner to do it.

If you do get it done (and you should), just make sure that no dealer/indy performs any sort of software update on the car as this i likely to overwrite your map and put it back to stock.
True. And we were indebted to GAD for them restoring their map to our car afterwards - great service.

Used to have a C63...
Depending where in the southwest you are, MSL is only 3-3.5 hrs up the road in Brum.

WOW! Fantastic gains. I would imagine that would embarrass a lot of so called fast cars, including AMGs.
