Remapping Information !

Hi Everybody.
I am the proud owner of an immaculate E/class E320 CDI. Of which I love everything about, apart from the Economy!
Locally it only returns 20/25 MPG, and on a lengthy run, only 30/32 Maximum!
I have been contemplating getting it remapped to try and improve things, but it is quite expensive to get it done !
I was wondering if any of you fellow forum members have tried this process on the same model, and whether it is worth getting done, to save me he expense of trial and error!

It's generally viewed that while a good quality remap is great for improved power it isn't likely to improve economy.

You're cruising economy looks low, I would be considering other reasons.
Heavy footwear,
are you cruising or up and down with speed?
Air filter condition,
is it reaching a temperature of 85 degrees swiftly, and maintaining it?
There could be a few reasons.

As per M80, I'd run through a few service items first. My 07 CLS320 would clip 40 mpg on a run without trying.

I used to average ~36 mpg in my il6 329cdi, so yours isn’t where it should be

Getting a remap WON'T improve your fuel economy...

I think you should get it looked at by an independent specialist first. I have the same car, and on a recent run from sussex to norwich it returned 53 mpg. You have something amiss

That'd be OK if OP had the petrol.

Hi. I am definitely not heavy footed in anyway, and the car has plenty of power! I Will only get it remapped if it will improve the MPG consumption !
My son often drives it, and returns the same consumption, whereas his own BMW with the same sized engine returns well in excess of 42 MPG!

I've more power and torque from a 8 year newer 2.1 but it can do this...

Yeah it's a 2009 330d 245bhp manual.

That's good economy you're getting. A mate from works wife has a E250 CDI estate, he said that gets over 51mpg as well

Those look like US of A Gallons per mile for the V6 CDI. I had a 224 version and also had over 36mpg average for 100k miles

Sorry but something doesn't sound 'right' with your E320 cdi. I have a 2004 W220 S320 LWB cdi - a much heavier car but with the same OM648 inline 6 engine (un-modified but well maintained).

At 137k miles my 'S' still consistently returns 31-33 mpg around town and 42-46 mpg on a 100 mile cross country trip including some stretches on dual carriageways at 70 mph. I've even seen 50 mpg once or twice at a steady 50 mph on speed restricted motorways.

Assuming you drive yours 'sensibly' (!) I tend to agree with others here who say that remapping isn't necessarily the answer to your fuel consumption issue. Maybe an idea to have it looked at by a Mercedes specialist with SDS diagnostics?

It doesn't sound as if remapping is the answer to my economy problem, and I have no complaints with the power, and oomph of the car, so it looks like a computer tune up is the answer!

My 2004 E320CDI estate averages 29-30mpg on the long term trip and I have seen over 50mpg cruising at 60mph on the motorway but generally around 45mpg keeping with the traffic. Do you have the gearbox in Comfort of Standard most of the time?

23-28 mpg around town for me 38-42 mpg on a journey if its driven carefully. My average is 35mpg
