Over the last few months my wifes c240 sport (1999) has developed an odd fault. It starts with the front windows not working and then the remote locking fails, it can be temporarily sorted by disconecting the battery which resolves the issue but only for a short while before the same problem appears. I've been told it could be the door module. what is that and is there a cure? or is it a visit to the dealership?, any help would be appreciated.

I had same problem with W210 1997, it was the RHS rear door module sending out fault on CAN system (even though window operating), I disconnected electrics going to window and never had problem again, the complete motor assemble needed to be replaced as you cannot get DCM on it own.
There are a number of Threads dealing with this same problem.
Luders79 replied to mine and gave solution.
Basically wait for problem to occur, remove triangleur cover at bottom of B pillar ( under seat belt) to expose plastic electrical connector to rear door, disconnect one door at a time and try window giving trouble, if it operates you have located faulty DCM.

Thanks for that, looks like I'm taking the car apart this weekend! Cheers again. Anyone know where I can get a module from when I've established which is faulty?

It only takes a couple of minutes to do rear doors as "triangular" plastic cover is easy to remove and electrical coupler is in conduit, I think it had 4 cables. I didn't have to do the front doors as I found problem on rear door. I never bothered changing the module as I never used the back windows I just left the connector disconnected and put cover back on. I had car for another 6 months with no problems I hope this is your problem let us know.
Be careful disconnecting and reconnecting battery as I blew alarm and had to bring to MB to get it sorted ( they never found fault on door said it needed new vacuum pump !!!)

Thanks for that I've now discovered it is the front drivers door 'DCM' I presume that is why it also effects the central locking. Does anyone know if I replace it with a second hand one whether it will need programming and if so is it something I could do or is it off to the diagnostic man at the dealership?
Thanks for the help so far
