Anyone have any experience removing the model ID numbers from driver's side trunk lid? Is it just adhesive? Or are there posts that extend through trunk lid that would require filling?

FYI - I own a 97 E420 sport

Thanks in advance - Chris

These should on your age of car simply be fixed with adhesive tape.

Try warming them up slightly using a hair drier to soften the adhesive first. Then use something stiff but non scratching e.g. an old credit card, to prise them off. Any remants of adhesive can be removed with white spirit or a good quality car polish.

Be aware that in certain lights you will still be able to see the "imprint" of the model # as the paint around it will have faded slightly but again you can minimise this with some cutting and polishing.

removal of signage

Thanks for the info. Tinyflier. Adhesive is what I assumed. Will hit it with heat gun on low and then use 20 lb. test fishing line to work under and then clean up from there. Thanks again.

Best way to remove is to pour hot (not boiling) water on the badge to soften the glue and use dental floss behind the badge to cut throgh the glue and remove it without leaving any damage. Only takes five minutes or so.

Then use Autoglym 'Intensive Tar Remover' to remove any remaining glue deposits...again, without leaving any marks. Then a bit of T-cut on the area to blend in the paint if there is any sillhouette of the old badge and a bit of wax polish (zymol) to blend the area in with the rest of the car and your done.
