Hi everyone

Is anybody able to tell me how to remove the head lining on my E240 estate 1997 W210. I have just bought it and it is in desperate need of a solid clean, tar nicotine greasy hand marks etc. I would also like to take off the roof bars and the corresponding trim so that I can give the car a flash over with laquer.

Thanks in advance

Steve:-?

If its like the 124 it takes ages and its tricky.

take off the grab handles and the entire front head lining panel along with the mirror and visors.

take off the 6 plastic pillar covers 2 at the screen 2 at the doors and 2 at the rear.
you may need to remove seats to get the pillar covers off.

take the sun roof trim off and release the lining from the aperture.

Take off the rubber door seals and peel back the lining, inside the lining there are several wire clips that keep the tension on the lining, un hook them all.

once you have got it loose, it is hooked around the rear screen and there is one single wire from side to side holding it up this is a pig to remove some force is needed to detach it.

Once you get it out there is the simple task of reversing the above steps to get it back together.

Thank you for your reply. Sounds a little more involved than I had anticipated Just hope I don't damage anything.

I think the 210 should be a little simpler, especially in an estate. Its a solid headlining so should be a case of removing the trim as described and it should come down in one piece quite easily. Why are you removing it though?
I'd have thought it would be no harder to clean in situ, especially given the effort required to remove it.

I bought the car from a salvage yard. It had presumably be stood for quite some time with a tarp over it. As a result there is a lot of mold everywhere and moisture. I am removing the seats and panels to steam them in an effort to kill the mold spores and place them in the house to dry out while I repair the front end.(bumper cross member bonnet wings etc) I wanted to also take off the roof rails (rather than mask them) which I assumed were attached from the inside, also to take a look at the tailgate hinges (seems to be a bit of resistance going up).
