Some kind soul has put a dent in the decorative chrome strip set into the rubbing strip (if that's what it's called) on the outside of the driver's door.

I reckon if I could remove it without damage I could beat the dent out, and replace it. But how can I remove this chrome strip please? Thanks for any advice.

I can now answer my own question, for the benefit of anyone else with the same job!

The whole plastic rubbing strip, complete with stainless trim, is easily removed. There's one screw (star headed) on the inner edge of the door, then whole assembly can be pulled back firmly to slide off the mounting clips.

The stainless strip is held in place by several black plastic clips, which can be prised off and reused (squirt with WD40 to ease).

Dents in the stainless trip can be beaten out. The best way is to mix a ball of epoxy putty, wrap the trim in cling film, and press an undamaged outer section of the trim into the putty to make an impression. When hard, the dented area can be gently beaten to shape in this mould. Put some clingfilm below it to prevent scratching.

When refitting, the black plastic clips need to be pressed home hard until the 'click'.
