Removing fake AMG badging

My car has fake AMG badges on the boot lid and behind the front wheel arches. I don't know how long ago they were attached. I think they are fixed with some sort of standard double-sided sticky pad. Does anyone have any experience of removing these and what might be needed to remove any marking or trace effect? I am wondering whether to just lever them off or whether I have to prepare them at all. The garage that last serviced the car suggested that they should be heated a bit first.... It's embarrassing having them on the car and I would like to put the car right.

Use a hair dryer gently heating the badge until it comes away freely then clean arount the area with spirit.

As 100% bitch , warm them up, gently pull way from the top, and they come away, remove residue with lighter fuel or similar.

Dental floss, yep you heard right. Get a good length and get it behind the backing and slowly using a back and forth action, (sawing) work along it, them use panel wipe or some other form of spirt to remove glue.
Ther you go tip for today.

And don't use the dental floss afterwards! Although the lighter fluid might be good.

Helen.

Label remover is very good at getting them off, its an orange peel based solvent for acrilic adhesives that you can get from staionary suppliers. The same solvent is added to those citrus hand cleaners.

but do you really want it removed with a claw hammer or a 6 inch hunting knife? Actually there is a good chance when you come back all that will be left is the badges.

If you live anywhere near Corby the above is a certainty and all within the hour. The badges would be safe for two reasons, firstly most cannot read - at all and secondly nobody would have a ****** clue what to do with them. :D

Back to the origins of the thread...:)

Would the paint under the badges be a slightly different colour due to ageing/light?

Nope...won't be able to tell. It's a clear surface on your paint and doesn't reallly discolour.

Mine is de-badged and you can't tell where they were at all.

Best way ive been told and used was to boil water in kettle and steam off the adhesive, then use a plastic card to slowly remove the badge.

was real quick and simple and i was told to do this way by guy who works in bodyshop....

then just give the area a good polish to remove any residue.
