Hello,

This is my first post here as I'm new MB user.

I have just noticed not only normal spanner is missing but also the special one for locking nuts :(

Can't wait for a flat tyre now...

What is the quickest way of sorting this problem? Is it possible to buy the proper tool or do I need to order it from MB?

My nuts looks like these ones but I'm not sure if that's the same size etc.

Please advise. My MB is E430, 98 (S reg).

Thanks for any help in advance!
S.

Yes, absolutely right. Providing they are MB locking nuts and you can prove ownership (as above) the nice MB parts man will come out to your vehicle and try all the combinations until he gets the right one, and then order it for you. Takes a couple of days.

It might just be worth getting him to take the locking nuts off for you and replacing them with standard wheel nuts if you are making long journeys, then replace them when your new key nut arrives,

I had to buy the locking nut for mine - it came without one.

The nice MB Derby man came out to the car and tried all combinations and then sold me one off the shelf. The only proof of me owning the car was I was in the car.

I did need my driving license and log book to order a replacement key, Though when my wife collected it though she just said - Hi I'm Mrs joem, do you have the key and they gave it to her. MB Loughborough this time.

I don't think there is, it is at least three years since I had to replace mine, but the guy just came out and tried each key in turn from a box of about 24. Having found the right one, he just ordered it, and said they would place a record on my file.

When you think of it, it would not make much sense if you could see the serial number, just spot a set of wheels you want to pinch, order the key from the dealer, and away you go!

I've managed to loose my locking nut adapter. I'll order one from Merc when it goes in for it's service later in the week. Out of curiosity, how much are MB likely to charge me for the new adapter? Thanks, Richard

southampton mb had one on the shelf for my car...it was about £20.

the parts man came out to the car with 2 sets of different styles of adapter that the workshop keep for their own use.

he identified the correct one by trial and error and luckily they had one in stock.

each one obviously has a unique i.d and part no.

Phew, cheers hmang. £20 is a lot for a small chunk of cast metal but to be honest I was fearing much worse! Fully expected something daft like £50+ though obviously MB would present it in a nice velvet lined metal box or similar ;-)

Would the key number be noted in the Service book? (Mine is)

no velvet loveliness i'm afraid,...but you do get a free plastic bag with a part number. so you can order another new one when the beasts at the tyre bar destroy it with a windy gun.
