There are two types fitted to 638 Vitos .What is the year and does it have a leather gaitor , or a plastic surround with a plastic sphere in the centre they are radically different to remove and , why do you need to remove it ?

managed to sort it out.

had to replace it as the knob itself was disintegrating.

what a pain in the butt. needed 4 steel skewers and jewellers screwdrivers to unclip the plastic retainer.

Disintegrating gear knob is common to both types ,but glad you removed it . Yours must have the leather gaitor but should be able to remove it with just your fingers then slacken off the lock nut .The other type you need a torque key to remove the actual knob but is cheaper to replace.
