Hi,

I don’t know the mechanics of a car and really would like some help as to whether the following quote is reasonable:

supply and fit the nearside front suspension arm - £300

To supply and fit the nearside rear road spring - £160

B service would be £330 (inc brake fluid and update digital booklet)

The repair work was quoted by an indi in Manchester.

Is the price ok or is it too expensive?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

If it was quoted by an indie on Stand Lane Radcliffe I'd get another quote elsewhere .... :coffee:

Thanks everyone

It’s a place in droylsden

I guess I can take it to just a standard garage as the repair work isn’t really requiring specialist merc mechanics?

I don't know that particular Indie , but don't take your car to a non Mercedes specialist- when the time comes and you need diagnostics then you might be in with a bad surprise...
I'd suggest getting a second quote from another Mercedes specialist slightly further away
try Dave at MD Motorcare over my way 0151 357 3111, see what he quotes at least it gives some comparison then you can decide whether it's worth the trip (not too far anyway). There's also MB Tech in Warrington... sounds like avoid the Radcliffe one though!

Imo it isnt, its not running fancy suspension so it's bolt on parts

agreed on the suspension but needs a B service too so if possible it's be neater to get it all done at the same time maybe?

that'll be the place that charged me 4 hours labour for a job that MB themselves only quote 1.4 hours for ..... and afterwards the car still stank of fuel when ever I filled it up, apparently I'd been over filling the car! o_O Funny how I sorted the smell when I replaced the O seal between fuel pump & tank with a new one rather than re-use the old one!

I hope the indi in droylsden isn’t like the Radcliffe one.

Read reviews on them and it’s decent so hopefully it’s good. They pickup and drop off the car too so that’s quite a draw.

Il email md motorcare and get a quote and see if it’s similar.

Plus like what’s been said it needs a service too so it’s best just to do it in one place.

Thanks again for the advice everyone.

On the whole, Droylson does get good reviews, they just p***ed me off when they blamed me ... maybe if they'd used a new seal I'd not have had to sort it out myself. I'd used them a few times but have never gone back.

Even their Smart courtesy car broke down on me! :D:D

Only thing I would say about Dave is he's a bit crap with emails due to being 'hands on' , if you prefer the email route maybe MB Tech would be a better bet

I looked at costs a few years ago, local general mechanic will charge about £45 per hour including VAT, Indy charges around £60 including vat but has experience with the metal in front of them, so can often complete things quicker, therefore end cost works out about equivalent

that's the bit I missed, good point!
In addition when they're doing a service they know whilst waiting for oil to drain for instance they can begin the suspension whilst it's up there, so time saved

I think it’s swings and roundabouts in all honesty, the local general mechanic, can get stuff done really quickly at times if he’s got a good head on him, and will be cheaper than an Indy, but if something goes wrong then I’ve known a couple that will actually just take it directly to the indy to sort out.
Personally I’d let the Indy do everything then they get to know the car and what you’ll live with and what needs doing ASAP
