My drivers side heated seat doesn't appear to work even though the buttons on the door function correctly. I am guessing therefore that its probably the element although it seems odd that both the back and bottom bits have packed up simultaneously. According to the previous owner this happened before and it was replaced by a main dealer (Greenoaks in Slough) at a cost of around 400 quid around 4 years ago.

I just wanted to ask if there are any pointers to help me diagnose the problem without having to remove the seat (which seems too complicated). Can access be gained without a full removal of the seat?

You have a connectors just under the seat, I do not know the pin outs off hand, and I believe that this connector could be separate from the seat adjustment connector

Is it possible to get to the element in the heat pad without removal of the entire seat?

The seat pad is sown onto the leather, we have had post where the wires that go to the pad break, and they can be repaired, this being the case then the covering has to come off the seat.

I should be able to give you a work sheet to do this, I have removed all of the leather seat coverings on my SL without any difficulty
