Hi all

Curious if anyone knows what must be a simple answer to this... I hope

Despite my keys having new Duracell batteries, the cars display tells me to change my batteries ? Still opens and starts keyless as it should, just the warning.

Any suggestions ??

Karl

Maybe a code reader is needed to clear the fault message.

You'd like to think this would be a self clearing fault, even if its really a fault, I'll bear it mind though

some faults need the code cleared once the offending part
has been fixed. .

I know this is an old post but I have this issue but only with 1 of my 2 keys suggesting the issue is with the key rather than the car. Anyone got any ideas/experiences?

Some keys have a long coil on the PCB that becomes detached when the keys are dropped onto a hard surface. The infrared transmitter still works, but the radio frequencies don't. Diligent application of solder and iron can sort it.

I once had a problem with Duracell batteries in a lighting system remote. Their support said the child safety flavour coating had caused problems in some of their remotes but not others. Sure enough, a cheap supermarket battery worked straight away. Never had that problem with my car keys however.

Had a problem on my SL500, If I remember, correctly something like “key not recognised” so handle would not open door - with new duracells.
Changed to genuine Merc batteries worked perfectly !
Bizzarre to me as a battery is a battery?

The key is working fine. The only issue is that the car believes the battery in the key needs replaced. I've ordered Duracell batteries and will try one when received. I will also clean the contacts in case there's high resistance. Thanks for the feedback.

Duracell made no difference so went back to the Panasonic battery. I cleaned the contacts (including the mating contacts on the battery holder and key itself) with switch cleaner and a cotton bud. Sorted!
