its always the way, you do a 5 minute job and it always goes on for much longer,

anyway i replaced fuel pump filter and now the pump is buzzing, you can hear it from outside the car - i have checked all the connections etc, and the car goes & starts Ok. I have filled the petrol tank up a few times

the car is a v6 320 petrol - 1998 and its done just over 100000 miles..

should i leave it or replace the pump?

Did you have the arrow pointing forwards.

Buy another filter and then see what happens.

I had a dirty filter and the pump could be heard a lot and a new filter was put on and you rarely hear the pump, so the pump on your car must be having to work too hard. Dodgy filter internals or something. Try filter first.

Have you moved the pump in such a way that it is now touching something? If so the normal running sound could be effectively amplified.

just had a look and took it all apart and tried again - it's the filter that's making the noise, must be a suspect filter if there is such a thing.. (too late i have thrown the old one away so i can't put that one back )

interestingly enough when i go for full throttle the engine does seem fuel starved and cuts back on power... must be a faulty filter..

and no it wont go the other way around - i tried that - much to the dismay of seeing my Shell Optimax pour away

I'll see what the stealer says tmoorrow..
