Replacement alloys for W210

Both rims and tyres could do with replacement on my 2001 E240 Estate. I've looked at refurbishing by Pristine Alloy Wheels but think that the combined cost of a refurb and new tyres will be as much or more than buying replacement alloys fitted with new Michelin Pilots which can be shipped fitted and balanced and I'll put them on myself.

Can anyone recommend replacement alloys - thinking of something identical but maybe from a 16" to a 17" with corresponding lower tyre wall. Can anyone advise and is there a better tyre than the Michelin?

Thanks

I'm in a similar position, my 17" diamond cut wheels need replacing and am going for an aftermarket wheel that looks as near to the original as possible - just make sure you get a whell that has the same / similar offset as the originals.

The new chrome paints look as good as diamond cut, without all of the problems and short life. MB have gone this way now

I have Pirelli P-Zero Rosso on my W210, they have covered 8000 miles and still look as new. Good in the wet, no tyre noise and would thoroughly recommend them.

I have just ordered the same from mytyres, the old ones did 20k miles.

they have the best write up for noise and wear, both the same thing really.

I have the earlier version on my wife's SLK, I would guess they are only 50% worn have done around 15k miles, mind you she only uses the car for short journeys so I would expect them to cover about 25k miles - good tyres :D

Malcolm, do you know the paint code?

9709 – Sterling Silver
9714 – Brilliant Silver
9715 – Standard Silver and Burnished Silver
9771 – Titanium Grey
7756 – Himalayas Middle Grey

Sterling Silver is the type used on most AMG wheels and doesn't have any visible metal flakes in it. A lot of people describe Sterling Silver as chrome silver, flat silver, mercedes silver etc..
