Replacement boot lock barrel - how expensive?

I need to get a replacement cylinder (=barrel) for my 1993 560 SEC boot lock. I'll spare the full background story, but the essential point is that the cylinder in the boot-lock was changed a couple of years ago, so I have a separate key for the boot only. But I'd prefer to be able to open the boot with the main car key rather than having to carry two keys around. So I asked my local dealer if they could get me a replacement boot-lock cylinder to the original key-pattern. The keys and locks are of course mechanical - no electronickery.

They can order from MB Milton Keynes (or Germany?), using VIN no and after seeing logbook and ID - fair enough. But they quote £60 plus for the lock, which seems a bit fierce. Not totally clear whether it is just the "barrel", or an entire lock assembly. But it still seems a lot of money. Is that indeed the right price?

Sounds right. Once you find out that lock sets for newer cars can be £300-plus the cost of a Mercedes replacement seems very reasonable

Thanks Nick. I suppose I ought to be reassured...! I can understand the high cost of a complete set of new modern infrared radiocontrolled locks. But £60 still seems a lot for a single, "yale-type" lock-barrel. Oh well, so be it. I guess I'll just have to grit teeth and go ahead.
