I have just replaced the Cat on my w210 E230 after the origional started to rattle like crazy.
I got hold of one online from www.cats4less.co.uk - they were very efficient and I recieved the part the next day.(TNTcourrier delivery was free).
£175 incl Vat - I thought was pretty reasonable.
The cat seems pretty well constructed and fitted fine- all clamps etc also included, car now running quiter than for some time.

hi Jon
how is that replacement cat going now? I have to get a new one due to rattling and petrol fume smell on my E320 1996. My merc guy has offered me a merc one for £1073 fitted or one from eurocarparts.com for £387 fitted. A big difference!!

Does anyone have any good/bad reviews of non-merc cats?

All I can add to this debate is a conversation I had with my local Indi some months ago.

He mentioned that as a business they will have nothing to do with fitting non Mercedes CAT's as he had his fingers burnt when they used to fit non Mercedes CAT's as a lot of them were noisy and some would even fail within 12 months. He reckoned they were more trouble than they were worth.

If it were me, I think I would try and find a good replacement from a MB Breaker.

Hi rghnaish
Happy to report that it's still fine and at the moment is as quiet as the origional.
That said, I have only covered about 600 mls since replacement and it will be interesting to see how long it continues to perform as time and mileage builds up - will keep you posted.

2 inches from your rear bumper
I fitted a GSF cat to my W202 C200 some months back, I've done about 7000 miles since and it's still ****** noisy. It's even made me consider changing the car - for a Volvo S80! That's how bad it is. Truly a false economy.

thanks for the posts. So far the score is:non-merc cats 1 merc cats 2.
My local independent guy reckoned some non-merc cats don't fit that well either and can end up touching the body which will make a noise when you turn the car. But I guess like a doctor, who only see people who are ill, he is more likely to get to see the cats that don't work out, rather than the ones that do.

I like the idea of finding a part from a breaker, as long as the car hasn't done too much mileage and hasn't been damaged in the crash that ended its road life.
