Replacement Door Mirror Glass

As I posted elsewhere while wrapping up another query, I went out to our W124 Coupe yesterday to discover that some lowlife had stolen the glass out of the driver's door mirror. Not some vandal randomly breaking mirrors, this was carefully removed and unplugged, by someone who obviously needed on for their car.

I've just called Mercman and they're quoting £70 + VAT + postage, which is a bit more than I expected. Mirror is electrically adjusted and heated which I guess jacks up the price a bit.

Will call the local Merc dealer next for a price, but wondering if anyone has any suggestions about where to source the part at reasonable price.

Since the whole glass has been taken, I've got nothing to stick a cheap halfords type replacement to.

Thanks.

I read about that rotten thing that happened to you. They do come up on Ebay quite often

Thanks Malcolm,
Saw your reply last night, and had a look on ebay. Nothing to fit our car there at the moment, and I need to get mirror sorted for upcoming MOT.
Might have to splash out for a new one.
Just checked Dronsfield website and they don't list one, but might give them a ring and see what second hand ones they have.

Problem solved

Guess I was too hasty in thinking that someone stole it as they needed a mirror for their own car. Talking to an elderly neighbour down the road this morning and mentioned the car. Turns out she found a mirror in the footpath outside her house on Monday morning, and left it on her wall, where it still was, all intact too.

So it was some yob ripping mirrors off cars, but doing it quite carefully.

Had called Mercedes in Reading this morning and brand new they cost £80 + VAT, so that's a relief.

Now, can anyone advise on a trick for getting the glass back on?
Hard to push the clips on to the little adjusters.

Thanks Malcolm,
Goes to show you what having a chat with the neighbours can do.
Had a quick attempt to put glass back in but as I press it in the clips just seem to push the adjusters back into the housing.
The guys who are cleaning up my brake pipes might have a go at it.
