I've been getting some grief of late trying to deactivate the alarm on my 99 SLK. Sometimes it will work OK, sometimes it won't. When it doesn't work I can lock the car off the fob, but not unlock it. Sounds very much like a duff fob doesn't it?

Macclesfield Merc quoted me £103 + VAT for a new key, which sounded quite expensive. It's one of the newer style with the flick out key, is this the sort of price I should be expecting to pay?

Thanks

Guy.

Have you tried changing the batteries in your remote? Also if you have 2 keys do they both malfunction in the same way?

Yes, I've tried new batteries, still the same problem. The batteries are completely flat in the spare, I might swap them with the duff one when I get home and try that - see what happens.

Has anyone bought a new key recently? How long does it take to get one?
