Hello people.

I'm new to this forum so please be gentle!

I have recently purchased a 53 reg C220 CDi and was wondering if it's possible to remove the bonnet star with the flat Mercedes emblem badge?

I've heard there is a wire connecting the star underneath somewhere so that it cannot be removed but i would rather it removed and replaced with a less appealing to the thiefs eye emblem or blanking badge.

Also, is it possible for me to get a grille to fit mine with the Merc badge already in?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Cheers

Michael

to remove the badge, open the bonnet and under it using a pliars, grab the assembly and twist it clockwise one turn approx 90 degrees, you should then be able to pull it out gently from the top (of the bonnet)

replacement star can be bought (flathead) on ebay or better still mercedes, same goes for the 'kompressor' star emblem front grill.

although i prefer the bonnet mounted star myself,

cheers

I have only had my car for a couple of months, but I still get a great deal of pleasure seeing the star at the end of the bonnet as I drive.

Maybe, it's just me

The star on the bonnet is one of the many many many nice things about Mercedes. (Makes a great parking distance guide as well) :)

No - me too!
Agreed - leave the badge where it is. They don't get pinched that often and they're cheap enough anyway.

I remember someone saying to me once that the bonnet star was like cross hairs! I have to say that I much prefer the bonnet star, it gives the car a certain something over other cars! Leave it there......

Purely a styling thing. The sports and coupes generally have a flat badge and the saloons have a star.

An original Merc always looks the best. After all, they are all classics and dream cars from their era and when altered always look like they're trying to be something they're not when what they was already very respectable.

Yep, leave the star alone. I used to park my company C class in some dodgy areas (did social housing) and it never got touched. CLK has a flat badge but thats OK - suits the car.

I thought the star was to get a better aim at pedestrians!

The Star

Absolute sacrilege!! Don't do it, the star is what the marque is all about. It's known all over the world. My sister had it done on her C180, silly moo. My SEC hasn't got one but it's a sports coupe and they are all like that it suits them.
