Anyone know how to go about replacing dash bulbs in a 99CLK. The one over the temp guage and various ones at the heater controls have blown.
Thanks in advance

The heater control knobs pull off, and the surround dismantles quite easily though I've not done a clk. The ones on the dash cluster are replaced by pulling the cluster out. This is a major job for a dealer and charged around £80 but a quick and easy 2 min job (we'll sort the price next time you're in type job) for your local specialist. I think they use a cheap chrome puller rather than the solid gold diamond encrusted one the dealer uses - hence the price difference. I couldn't tell the difference in the light though.

Hi

Do you know how to pull it out? - so to speak!

I notice there are two slots, one either side of the dash, about 1cm long. Can I just use an appropriate coat hangar and pull?
Regards
Jim

Didnt really have a go yet but I tried pulling the knobs of the heater control panel but they are fixed pretty good, didnt want to damage em by using a screw driver. If you have a go Jim let me know how you got on.

Cheers Mike, but I'd prefer it if you broke yours first then let me know how you got on. ;)

I'll give it a try this weekend. I'm only really going to try and get the instrument panel out. I'll have a fiddle with everything else ad let you know.

Regards

Just found out from the other MB forum you need a special tool from the stealers to remove the dash surround. Its only a fiver though so I'll probably get one.

Officially you need a puller. However, to be truthful, its pretty much a friction fit. The problem is that the puller hooks into the plastic and if you put too much strain on it, you can crack the cluster screen. (£50 from your friendly parts desk apparently - not that its a common problem or anything!)
I took the cluster out of the E class (same or similar arrangement) by first removing the under dash tray and gently pushing from behind (with as many fingers as you can get to it) and at the same time, easing from the front. After a little working from side to side, it came out.
DO NOT disconnect the wiring - it will trip the SRS and you'll be off to the dealer for a reset.
If you must dis the wiring, dis the battery first.
