Vito w639 2007 2.1
Hello

Vito w639 2007 has an automatic gearbox issue - transmission is in a limp mode (not shifting gears above the first). The dealer has quoted replacement of the shifter and gearbox control module with a heavy price tag. I have replaced the shifter without success, so I need some advice to move forward.

Do I need to do anything after replacing the shifter? (eg delete codes or reset module)
Is it possible to fit the module as a used part and does the module have to have exactly the same codes and readings on it as the old one? (basically, what is the essential when searching for a plug and play replacement)
When replacing the gearbox control module, do I have to nessecarily reprogram it to fit it to the car?

Thanks
Zeus

Post the whole vin and I Will look it up. IF its a 5g auto, then no the TCU (gearbox control module) is not coded to the car.

IF its a 7g then it is.

If you get one from an identical spec 639 it won't need to be coded but if its from anything else, even if the part numbers it the same, the variant coding will need to be done.

The VIN is WDF63970513381685.

If I get the replacement from identical specs 639, do the part numbers have to match 100% or can these be slightly different?

You can use any TCU with the following part numbers:

A0005458416
A0005458516
A0005458916

they may or may not need variant coding depending on the spec of the vehicle they came out of.

2014 639 Viano- 651, 5sp Auto. 2009 S211- 646, 5sp Auto.
I haven't seen a 639 with the 7 speed.
All four of mine have had the 5 speed. They don't even get the C/S option.

I replaced the TCU (with suggested part number A0005458516) from a car with similar specs, deleted all fault codes and got it running. Thanks.
