Replacing hood pad: worthwhile?

The foam padding at the back of the hood has fallen apart. Is it worthwhile (money-wise) to replace it with a new one? It's been like this since I bought the car, so I don't know what the effect really is.

The foam pad under the bonnet really does help to keep the noise down.

I am about to replace the one on my 107 after the ancient glue failed and let the pad drop into the path of the fan ( broken fan cover).
