Looking to change my coils and shocks at the front because the front passenger has what I believe to be a very worn shock absorber ( really rough if one side hits a bump ) someone on YouTube with a similar Mercedes fixed it by replacing the shock.

I have looked up the VIN code list, and nothing is mentioned regarding sports or increased ground clearance - so I think that the suspension is standard and not " sport "

The current coils have two yellow blobs on them ( two on each coil ) which apparently matches this OE number "A2033214104" - according to a Mercedes parts site.

Looking at my usual supplier, they stock " standard " or " sport " suspension.
Will my car drive OK if I buy standard shocks ( most likely Napa/Apec or NK ) and standard coils ( KYB ) ?

Car is a 2002 C240 Saloon Avantgarde. Here are the codes..

I know there is a points system, which is even more confusing, but I understand this is because certain options will affect the weight of the car and therefore coils have to be fitted accordingly.

All I want is mid-range comfortable soft suspension at the front to replace the worn shocks. May as well get the coils whilst I'm at it, aftermarket is fine.

I was confused when we got new MB Sportline springs for my W124. I worked it out from the EPC and all is well.

But, given the potential for error, and in your shoes, I'd go to MB and get them to identify and supply.

Regarding the dampers, MB used to fit mainly Sachs (or Boge) and Bilstein. If you want original equipment, get the MB part number and cross-refer that to a Sachs or Bilstein equivalent. I got 4 Sachs for my Sportline and all is well. I did spot a couple of Boges for next to nothing and they are in stock for a rainly day.

Good hunting.

Thanks for the info. Merc shocks are way too expensive for a project car. So I will have to get them aftermarket.

I have found identical genuine coils on eBay ( with the two yellow spots ) but they are just over three times the price of KYB coils. Question is, is it worth it to get Genuine coils, or go cheaper with KYBs ?

Agreed. But if you cross-refer the MB number to Sachs/Bilstein equivalents, you should be OK.

As for KYB, I have no idea. Never used anything from them. And, to my knowledge, KYB has never been a supplier to MB, unlike Sachs/Bilstein.

I’ve known garages to generally fit KYB stuff for customers across the board from a price perspective. However, just like tyres and brakes etc, suspension is a key component and just getting anything can leave you not much better off, get it right and the car will drive like it’s rolling out of the showroom.

Springs, get original la from MB Newcastle who you can call and they will point you to the right item on eBay. I just bought two rear coils for the CLS are around £85 each.

As mentioned above, you need to stick to Sachs, Boge and Bilstein. See if anywhere offers a deal on a set of shocks/springs as some outlets do. I find AUTODOC to be a decent option lace to shop for stuff like this due to choice and product detail ensuring you get exactly what you want.

All I will say is once this is done the ride of your car will be epic, even more if all arms bushes etc are done. This is all wear and tear stuff that should be replaced periodically and will pass MOTs long after it’s performance is satisfactory.
