Replacing the red/ green lights in W202 door

Hi,

Just got my car back working, after having had to fit a new rear view mirror to make the immobiliser work again, as both the red LED in the RVM and door were not working.

So as to not strain the delicate circuitry, I want to now get the red LED in the door handle of the drivers door working.

Has anyone ever done this???

Is it a hard job, or relatively straight forward. Can the red LED be replaced, or do I have to get a new unit?

A bit of advice and a short how to would be great!

Hi Ben its 95 in the link and you have to remove the handle to get to it,,if you need any work sheets I may be able to help you

To replace a bulb you have to replace the whole lamp!

Nah, see what car you got. If they see your sl, they think, ah, you must be loaded, they charge you more.

They are quite nice people depending which dealers. If you ask them to do simple job just for the lazyiness, they charge you more.

To replace the door sensor if you open the door remove the the door seal rubber in the vicinity of the sensor, you will see that there is a hole in there is a a allen key, either 3 or 4mm in size. Loosen only do not remove allen screw and the unit will pull out but be careful when removing and unplugging it, that the plug does,nt fall inside the door.

Merc want £60 for the unit, and £40 to code it - so what the hell, i'll do it.

Is there a danger of the alan key falling inside the door when you undo it???

The Haynes manual actually tells you how to undo that part without taking the door apart.

Do not worry about this affecting the mirror,,these devices draw no current at all, and no interaction

I find that surprising as mine never required coding, I don,t think they,ve ordered you the right one, as i believe they have ordered you a later one, but this will be obvious when it arrives.
If yours is the same as mine all it is red & green lights the later one is a infra red reciever, hence the need for coding.
Please keep us informed as i,m intrigued with this coding issue.
