replacing w124 300D fan belt

last night my belt nipped and fell off.
i obtained a new belt today and got out my haynes manual and tools.
i can't see any graphic or photo relating to my engine type and therefore do not know what way the belt routes.
its a w124 E300D reg 1995. no air con.
any help or link to manual page etc most welcome.

Hope this helps it's for a 4cyl but it's the same set up on the 5 cylinder so i don't imagine there is any difference with the 6 cyl

Why?

I think you should address that before you replace it. I'd suspect a worn idler pulley
