Hi All,

I have an SLK230 52 plate and I would like to fit a cd changer in the boot.
It already has a Sony single CD head unit fitted.
Has anyone done this and could recommend the best route for the cable from the boot to the head unit without drilling holes?

I seem to remember asking when I first bought the car if there was already a cable in the loom to the boot for this purpose like some cars and I think the answer was, its only an optical link?, which would be no good for the Sony CD changer. Not sure if I remembered that info correctly.
Any help would be most appreciated.

You are going to have to find a penetration in the boot /cabin wall. There is bound to be one . You can thread the head unit wires through this.Suggest you follow the path under either nearside or offside door ways . The plastic trim should come off with gentle prising. The secret of not causing damage is to move slowly but steadily without excessive force.Take note of how each panel is fixed. It pays to mark any screws that are removed with their place of origin and to keep eveything removed in one container ,preferably magnetic. There is nothing more frustrating than mislocating a screw worth a few cents and trying to locate it amongst the debris.

If your car has the fibre optic link then you can retrofit a disc changer in the boot, but it will have to be a unit from another merc, your best bet is to talk to a few ppl in the ICE industry and they will know what you need and how its done... (ICE = In Car Entertainment) some of them may even have the unit you need ..or know of someone who has one

OK Thanks guy's. My changer is a Sony unit so the optic link option cannot be used.

if you go to the sony web site they should tell you if your head unit can have a cd changer connected to it and what loom you might need.or go to your local ice expert.
