MrsC's 2003 SLK (170) is showing a pad warning light when braking. both front and back look ready for replacement. I am happy to do the job but have two questions:

Any special tools I need, I havent ever actually looked how the pads are secured.

Should the indicator light reset with the new pads or does the system need resetting in some way?

Thanks in advance

Mark.

I will put your other answer up in a bit, ½ hour.

To keep your good lady happy, knock out the two pins, gently open the pads back a little to clear the ridge on the disc, remove the one or two cables then slid the pad out. two schools of though on pushing back pistons. One is to clamp the pipe and undo niple, so as not to push dirty fluid back up the pipes, but this is mainly for older cars. normal way, take top off filler to tank to be sure that the fluid does not come over the top. I use a large flat old tyre lever to push the piston back, or one of the old Triumph PI hub cap tools.
Make sure the new pads slide easily, apply the grease, refit, put back wires then the pins. Clean your tools, then hands I know of no reset for this system, it should do itself.

Thanks for the help. I wasnt really looking for advice on the job, more a warning if I needed any special tools, a had only inspected the pads through the wheel.
As it turned out this was a very easy job front and back.

Thanks again.

Sorry Mark I did not mean to undermine, I now remember you saying somewhere that you have had many cars in the past, and like me you did a lot of the work yourself.
