I have just had my 2001 51 reg C200K serviced independently - is it possible to reset the service light? I remember on my old 1998 C200 it was possible to reset with a series of button pushes but I am wondering if this system is different.

Can anyone kindly let me know how to reset the service overdue light and also the brake linings wear, visit workshop light?

Many thanks in advance

easy mate, with the service light all you do is bring up the service reminder and press the trip reset button on your instument cluster and keep it pressed until it says "now press for 3 seconds" release button and press until you hear a beep it should now display you new service mileage.

as for visit work shop warning light, you simply need to check your brakes as your pads are now down to the sensor.

Hopw this helps

Hi Scott,

That's great, many thanks for the advice on resetting the service light, it worked the first time. I had the pads and discs replaced at the same garage that serviced the car but the brake lining warning still came up afterwards so I was wondering if it was possible to reset the brake warning by a series of button pushes too?

I'll probably have to take the car into the garage to get them to look at the sensor.

Many thanks again

Since it was an independent shop, did they actually replace the wear sensors?

The light could not come on without the sensor wires as it is only when the pads have worn down to the sensors, and are grounded via the disc, that the lamp comes on.

Just done my pads on a W124, 1992. Not sure if they are the same.
The pad light came on as the sensor touches the disc as the pad prgressively wears down. They may not have renewed the sensors. Mine were £1.86p each (incl VAT) from ECP. You can fit them retrospectively after the pads are fitted and bolted in, as there is just room to attached the sensor to the pad (push into hole in the pad) and the wire tube connector goes into a square plastic box thingy, (with a flap that lifts up) that is connected to the wiring, and eventually the dash light.
Might be worth £4 to fit new sensors, and at least check and eliminate that. Will take 10 minutes each side, including wheels off.

The lamp should not come on if there sensor wires are not fitted, the only way it can come on is if any of the wires leading to the sensor are short circuit to ground, if the short is further back in the chain, the sensor wires are doing nothing. Its a matter of unplugging until the light goes off

fitted new/old sensor incorrectly??? there is a hole in the pad for the sensor easy to miss thus pushing the end of the sensor onto the disk, take it back tell them to check it!

sorry malc your wrong!!
on this car the wear indicators are a closed loop type:: i.e if cut through or removed it flags a warning..
