my blower is kaput on my 98 E430.
Got motor out and it does fire up by itself using 12V so reckon it must be the resistor pack.
My local merc (non franchised) specialist says he has tried Merc franchise parts dealer and cant get just the resistor pack and so must (regrettably) charge me £750 for a whole new unit + looms !
Its only a bleeding resistor :(
Anyone know where I can source a replacement unit with or without loom?
it has a yellow 20 771 mark on it and
the lable is stamped GKR 9 140 010 281
and also marked SIEMENS 539.9879.770

your local RS components. You'll need to know what the ohm value of the resistor is, and then order a similar one and just solder it in yourself.

I do not have the exact 430 data to hand.as my main computer is down.
Most of these are in three parts, Blower, resistor unit and control. Under normal fault conditions with the control unit, the fan reverts to 5volt slowest speed only.
Are you sure the resistor block is faulty, its the little box that sits by the blower, any radio engineer could test and fit new ones.

The W210 has a 'regulator' unit fitted below the fan housing. Its a farily common failure and has various symptoms from whistling to random fan speeds or even dead. There are 2 feeds, a 12v and a variable 0-6v type that comes from the controller. The reg for my E240 was £125 from the dealer and 20 mins for me (not a mechanic) to fit.
Yours will have a slightly different fan housing as it has climate but the reg should work in the same way.

yee - haaaaaaaaaa

:D
I badgered the local merc main dealer parts dept.
They confirmed the old regulator was no longer available, the new regulator would also need a new matching motor (£600 for both + fitting)
I persuaded them to just supply the regulator and loom.
I took off the housing under passenger footwell, connected it up and it fired up perfectly, only thing is the shape of the heatrsink on the reg. means the housing wont close perfectly flat at the back, but hey its well under the footwell and completely unseen.
It only took 15 mins to fit with a few screwdriver contortions.
Reg and loom came to £200 inc vat , thus saving myself a cool £550.

Dont always believe what they say !

Thanks for your interest and help to those who posted -

My next dilemma is that my cats are recently rattling, will probably fail next mot, and at £400 a pop each Im not keen on handing out £1000 to mercedes parts network.
Anyone got any ideas ? Can you fit non merc pipes and cats to a merc ?
