I am considering respraying my 1997 estate. I have been given a quote (mate's rates) of £1,200. This is for both whole sides, the boot and renovating the wheels. The rest will be polished out properly to as good as 'new'. All done by insurance approved methods including an oven.

Not knowing anything about respraying, can anyone suggest why this may be a bad idea (apart from being £1,200 worse off!)

My only advice would be do the whole car if poss, the paint will be faded elsewhere on the car otherwise and you will notice it

sounds like a great price though!!

is it a drop it off friday pick it up monday, break down the costs, the wheels cost £65.00 each inc mtls ,body paint minimum 125.00 plus materials discs papers tape, are bits being taken off ,i see different levels of paint work every day in a body shop next to me and the level of quality depends on what you pay,he may be your friend now but when you look at it in 6 months will he be then ,dont get friends to do it,you wont want to go back with a problem ,he is not doing the big bits ,roof bonnet,he is doing bits that are more difficult to see mismatches on ,keep your friend ,it will never be the same

Well it's supposed to be the full monty. When I say 'mate's rates', it's my employer's business relationship with the company that has enabled a good rate. However, I will take note of the photos and advice and ask to what level the repairs are taken to. If I go ahead, I will also report on the result. If I can, I will endeavor to get photographs also.
